Odyssey of the Mind Tournament!!

The kids had the odyssey of the mind tournament on Saturday! They did a GREAT job!!!! I could not have been prouder of them! They came in 23rd place out of 43 teams for the food court problem. In their bracket they came in 10th out of 14. Not too bad for our first year!
The tournament was at Wingate University so we stayed in a hotel Friday night. Me, 2 other Moms and 5 kids, I am surprised we survived! We took the kids out to dinner at Golden Corral they loved it! Then practiced a lot! We had to get up at 5:45 AM to get to the college by 7:30 to check in ... we didn't get to sleep until after midnight and of course the kids kept waking me up. It was rough but worth it!

We had a dress rehearsal last week. Of course I made a cake ... LOL
I put all of the characters that the kids were playing on the cake, carrot, banana judge, peanut, chocolate bar, skittle, pumpkin and pea. The kids LOVED it! They wanted to eat their character!

Now that it is over I don't know what to do with my Monday's and Wednesdays! We spent 7 months working on this ... it was strange to not have a practice to go to last night....

Kayla's basketball team is #1 in the A bracket! They go to the championship game this Saturday!! She is soooo excited! I really hope they win. I am glad she was able to play her first year on a winning team! They are having a party tomorrow, and yes I am making a basketball cake!

Softball starts in 2 weeks. So at least we get a small break .... I better enjoy it while it lasts!

Odyssey of the Mind

I have been coaching and odyssey of the mind team for Kayla's old school since Sept. of last year. It is an educational team of 7 kids that work on a project all year and go to a tournament in March to compete against other elementary school teams in North Carolina. They are doing a play called Food Court. Where one food item has to accuse another food item of being unhealthy and then has to defend itself to prove why it is healthy.
The kids have to do EVERYTHING! No outside help, they have to write the play, make the costumes and scenery all on their own. I am able to suggest things and show them how to do things safely. It has been a lot of work but Kayla has had a great time. She is the judge that is a banana!
The tournament is March 6Th at Wingate University so we are almost there!!!

VALENTINES DAY!!!!

We had a great Valentine's Day!!!
Kayla woke up to a curtain of hearts I taped on her door .... then we did a scavenger hunt with clues all around the house! At the end she got her Valentine's Day present!! She really enjoyed it!
We made cupcakes and took some over to the neighbor and gave Ellie her valentine from Kayla.

Jamie took her to the gym at school to practice basketball for a few hours. Nice break for me! I am doing the consignment sale this week so it gave me time to tag my items... Man we have so much to sale!! Over 200 items of clothing, shoes, games, books, etc ... Kayla has a lot of crap!

Jamie and Kayla both got me flowers and candy! Jamie also got me some kitchen supplies I wanted!!! They are so good to me ... :o)

We made a nice Valentine's dinner and just enjoyed being together, it really was a great day!!

Kayla also had her basketball game on Saturday, she played GREAT!!! I have never seen her play like that! Her defense is really good, she blocked a lot of shots and kept stealing the ball! The coach kept her in the whole game except for about 4 minutes to rest. She got to play position 1 most of the game! She was so tired but very happy, they won 17 to 10!!!

Friday was a busy day too ... Kayla had the Valentine's party in her class, I went to help out. Then she had basketball practice and right after the Valentine's dance. Which I volunteered there too ... Making snow cones for the kids. Never again!!!

Busy Weekend ....

We had a very busy but fun weekend!

My Dad and Cheri were in town which was great b/c we got to spend time with them.
Saturday Kayla had her 3rd basketball game. They lost 15 to 23, but they play against a really good team. This was the first game they lost.

Sunday was Maw's 80th birthday party. It was a good time and she got to spend time with a lot of her family. I think she really enjoyed it! I am glad b/c I wanted her to share that special time in her life with her family. I think it is something she will always remember.
We had a special gift for her. Jamie's Grandpa was a big fisherman and spent a lot of time fishing off the pier at Holden Beach. He carved I love Mary Jane Furr in the side of the pier with his knife. After he died, Maw colored it in with a black sharpie and I took a picture of it. I had the picture blown up and framed for her. It made her cry but she really loved it!

SNOW DAY!!!!

Man we got a TON of snow!!!!
Kayla is having a blast! She finally got to meet the little girl that moved in next door, her name is Ellie, she is 7 and in the second grade. Kayla is so excited she finally has a friend to play with. The two of them played in the snow yesterday and really hit it off!

Today Jamie and I made a snow "kid" with Kayla. It was a lot of fun... But boy I didn't realize how much work it is to make a snow man ....
It turned out really cute!
Even Maggie liked the snow, she kept eating it!

The snow has been great but now everybody is ready for it to go away .....
